Developer Signals — Trained-Eye Masterclass
Back to DashboardReading Between the Lines
GitHub activity is noisy. A "Star" is not a lead. A "Fork" is not intent. This masterclass teaches you the heuristics our Engine uses to separate vanity metrics from enterprise buying signals.
Signal Artifact Legend
Commit/PushWork in progress. Low intent on its own.
Pull RequestReviewable change. Strong coordination signal.
Release / TagRoadmap checkpoint. Highest artifact weight.
LabelsLook for
compliance, security, blocked.RecencyActivity > 30d old is stale. Look for sustained cadence.
Red FlagsForks, mirrors, bot storms, archived repos.
The 8-Layer Signal Anatomy
The 100-point inspection list we run on every repo.
Identity & Provenance
Is this a real company, a lone wolf, or a bot?
Check For:
Owner Type
Signal Meaning:
Org = clearer provenance. User = needs employer verification.
Check For:
Verified Badge
Signal Meaning:
Gold standard. Connects code directly to a corporate domain.
Check For:
Public Members
Signal Meaning:
Visible team = real engineering org. Hidden = stealth or solo.
Check For:
Email Domain
Signal Meaning:
Check commit logs. 'users.noreply' hides intent; '@netflix.com' reveals it.
Check For:
Repo Fork?
Signal Meaning:
Forks are usually noise unless they diverge significantly (hard fork).

- Validation: Check the repo's
CONTRIBUTING.mdand recent merged PRs. Does the team merge external contributions? - Context: Read the linked issue regarding 50k concurrent workflows. This is a Redis limitation.
- Outreach: Open a comparative RFC or Discussion: “Patterns for scaling Conductor persistence layer beyond Redis limits.”
Noise Filters (Why we ignored 40 other signals)
- Fork or Vendor Mirror: We filtered out 12 forks of `conductor` that had no unique commits.
- One-Day Spike: 8 users starred the repo but had no other activity. Ignored as vanity.
- Bot Storms: Hidden 15 PRs from `dependabot` bumping minor versions.
- Archived Repos: Ignored activity on `netflix/deprecated-lib`.
